Scott D. Josey | Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Chairman, Chief Executive Officer Scott D. Josey previously served as CEO, President and Chairman of the Board of Mariner Energy, Inc. (2001 – 2010), until Mariner merged with Apache Corporation in a transaction valued in excess of $4 Billion. From 2000 to 2002, he served as Vice President of Enron North America Corp. and co-managed its Energy Capital Resources group. From 1995 to 2000, he provided investment banking services to the oil and gas industry and portfolio management services to institutional investors as a co-founder of Sagestone Capital Partners. From 1993 to 1995, he was a Director with Enron Capital & Trade Resources Corp. in its energy investment group. From 1982 to 1993, he worked in the drilling, production, pipeline, corporate planning and commercial activities at Texas Oil and Gas Corp. He is a former board member of Northern Tier Energy, Apache Corporation and Noble Corp. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering (Distinguished Alumnus) from Texas A&M University, an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MS in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston.
Mike C. van den Bold, CPG | President & Chief Operating Officer
Mike C. van den Bold previously served as Chief Exploration Officer and Senior Vice President with Mariner (2000 – 2010). He has over 35 years of industry experience in upstream oil and gas management, geology, geophysics, exploration and development activities. From 1996 to 2000, he worked with British-Borneo until they were acquired by ENI. He worked with British Borneo and British Petroleum from 1986 to 2000 in various exploration and development geoscience positions in North and South America, both Offshore and Onshore. He is a Certified Petroleum Geologist, Texas Board Certified Geologist and member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He holds BS and MS degrees in Geology from Louisiana State University.
Larry L. Long, PE | Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Reservoir Engineering
Larry L. Long previously served as Manager of Shelf Exploitation and Acquisitions for Mariner (2006 – 2010). He has 38 years of varied engineering and management experience in the upstream oil and gas business. He began his career in 1987 as a production engineer with Sun Oil Company. He worked as a production/operations engineer for both Sun and Unocal in the Midcontinent and Permian Basin. He also provided reservoir engineering support for exploration efforts at Unocal and El Paso Production Company. He has been active in SPE including serving on the Program Committee for the Production Operations Symposium, the National Engineering Registration Committee (including Committee Chairman) and the National Management and Economics Committee. He holds BS (Honors in Petroleum Engineering) and MS (Mechanical Engineering) degrees from Texas Tech University. He also holds an MBA from the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University (Jones Scholar).
Julia Heintz Murray, JD | Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Julia Heintz Murray has many years of legal experience in energy, energy finance and general commercial matters. She served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for Sequitur Energy Resources, LLC (2016 – 2017) and as Consulting Attorney (2014 – 2016). Prior to that time, she was Associate General Counsel for Champion Technologies, Inc. (2011 – 2013) and Special Counsel for Mariner Energy, Inc. (2007 – 2010). She served in various legal positions with Enron Corp. (1991 – 2005), including as Managing Director and General Counsel representing the Capital & Trade Resources, Industrial Markets, and Bankruptcy/Claims Groups. Previously, Ms. Murray was a partner at Jackson Walker, LLP where she practiced from 1982 to 1991. She is a member of the state bars of Texas and Louisiana. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Vassar College (BA Hispanic Studies) and received her law degree, Cum Laude, from Tulane University School of Law.
William R. Crow, PG | Senior Vice President of Permian Geology & Permian Regional Manager
William R. Crow served as a geologist with the Mariner Energy Permian Basin Group from 2005 – 2010 performing exploration and development duties throughout the Midland and Delaware Basins. He has over 45 years of industry experience in geology, geophysics, oil and gas exploration and development activities. He began his career with Getty Oil Company; however, the majority of his work experience has been with smaller Independent Oil and Gas Companies working in West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico. He has held various exploration and development positions in the Permian Basin with Cavalcade Oil Corporation, Charles B. Gillespie, Jr., and most recently Permian Basin Resources, LLC. He has also worked as a geological consultant for Apache Corporation. He holds a BS in Geology with a minor in Geophysics from Texas Tech University.
Braden G. Merrill | Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Braden G. Merrill previously served as Director of Strategic Planning for Sequitur Energy Resources (2013 – 2016). Prior to joining Sequitur Energy Resources, he worked as an Associate II at PROS Holdings, performing process design, business analytics, and consultative sales roles from 2012-2013. He began his career as an Analyst at Peregrine Oil and Gas I from 2004 to 2006 and then at Peregrine Oil and Gas II from 2006 to 2008. Prior to joining Peregrine, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University with a BS in Finance. He also holds an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
R. Lee Elsner, JD | Vice President of Land & Corporate Development
R. Lee Elsner has more than 15 years of industry experience with an emphasis in Land, Regulatory and Business Development. He previously served as Senior Landman and later District Land Manager for Sequitur Energy Resources, LLC (2014 – 2020). Prior to joining Sequitur Energy Resources, he worked as a Senior Landman and Title Attorney at an attorney-only land services company from 2010 to 2013 where he managed multiple crews performing all title, in-house land and regulatory functions for various private equity backed management teams. Prior to his time at the land services company, he began his career as a Judicial Intern for Judge Gray H. Miller of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He is an active member of the State Bar of Texas and the American Association of Professional Landmen. He also holds a BA in Political Science from Baylor University and received his law degree from South Texas College of Law.
Derek S. Davis, PE | Vice President of Completions & Production
Derek S. Davis has more than 15 years of industry experience with an emphasis in completions engineering and production operations. He joined Sequitur Energy Resources in 2018 and has served in a variety of engineering and operations leadership roles, most recently as Vice President of Completions & Production. Prior to joining Sequitur, he served as Senior Completions Engineer and Senior Production Engineer at Range Resources, working in high temperature, high pressure reservoirs (2017 – 2018). Prior to his time at Range Resources, he held completions and production engineering roles at Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (2014 – 2017), including serving as Production Superintendent over field operations in the Eagle Ford and other assets. He began his career at Halliburton Energy Services as a field engineer and later a principal engineer, working with a wide variety of operators across numerous basins and reservoir types. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) and is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA). He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer in Petroleum Engineering by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

The Founding Members of Sequitur have worked together for over twenty years, previously as executive management of Mariner Energy, a public company merged into Apache Corporation in 2010.
